While the Obama administration keeps talking about ‘looking forward’ and not ‘looking back’, a vast majority of Americans support investigation, including criminal investigation, for Dick Cheney and George Bush.
A new Gallop Poll shows a majority of Americans want to have an investigation into the wrong doings of the Bush administration, with more showing interest based on the politicization of the Justice Department followed by wiretaps without warrant, then torture. And while the Gallop poll interprets this as no mandate, of those who want an investigation into the politicization of the justice department (71%), 57% of them want a criminal investigation, For torture and wiretaps 63%, of those who support any investigation 60% want criminal investigation.
Not surprising Democrats favor the investigations more than independents and Republicans, but notable is that there are 20% of Republicans who support criminal investigation for torture, 15% for wiretaps, and 24% for firing U.S. Attorneys. And for independent special panel even more, 24% for torture, 26% for warrantless wirtaps, and 28% for firing U.S. attorneys.
Independents are a hard lot to gather because they range from Libertarians, Green Party, Constitution party, and other, but aside from the firing of U.S. attorney firings, they are also in a majority favoring investigation leaning towards criminal investigation.
And while Gallop Poll wants to say this isn’t a mandate for criminal investigation, overall it is a mandate that says, Investigate the Cheney Bush abuses. Will Congress pay attention? And will the Obama administration listen to the will of the electorate? You can make sure your voice is known by calling your representative and senators to let them know you support investigation. To do so, visit the house.gov, senate.gov, whitehouse.govwebsites.
To the board in general, I apologize if I my tone comes across as expressed with excessive zeal. However, over the last 8 years I have become OUTRAGED by what the Bush administration has done to my country.
Outraged by the egregious crimes that have been perpetrated in our name! – (invading a sovereign nation that was NO THREAT TO US! (Iraq), TORTURE, disregarding the rules of war as outlined in the Geneva Convention).
Outraged by the Bush adminsitations attempts (and worse yet successes) to redefine what it means to be an American! – For instance: Since when has America sanctioned torture? Since the Bush administration took office.
Outraged by the loss of our civil rights!
Outaraged by the level of gall exhibited by the Bush administration! – After 9/11 I think many Americans were frightened and many others were enrraged by the attack. They wanted to know that SOMETHING was being done to correct this ‘wrong’. And so, they allowed the Bush administration to gather too much power, with the hope that justice would prevail.
However, the Bush administration preyed on many good hearted Americans gullibility. All that crap about: “If you’re not with us. You’re against us”. If you disagree with Bush’s policies you were not a REAL American. Unfortunately, too many people fell for it! @$%@#$@!
To those people who believed Bush’s lies and supported his war with Iraq. I say you share responsibility for what he’s done in our name! You are culpable for the Bush administrations crimes!
So, I ask you: Do you value the moral high ground that America once possessed? (which btw, is the most valuable weapon against terrorism!)
I ask you: Do you value the civil rights that so many Americans have died to give you (and died to protect)?
I ask you: Are you going to just give them up, without a fight? Without so much as a whimper?
I ask you: Are you going to do something to fix that which YOU have helped destroy?
The next six months are going to be critical for our country. If Congress (and the judiciary) doesnt move quickly to change the course the Bush administration has set for us. America is in more trouble than most can even imagine.
The creation of the “Office of Special Plans” and Lt. Colonel Karen Kwiatkowski’s observations as relayed in her “New Pentagon Papers” are compelling evidence of the Bush administration’s intent to mislead our country into war with Iraq.
For example, an excerpt from Lt. Colonel Karen Kwiatkowski’s “New Pentagon Papers”
“From May 2002 until February 2003, I observed firsthand the formation of the Pentagon’s Office of Special Plans and watched the latter stages of the neoconservative capture of the policy-intelligence nexus in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq.”
“This seizure of the reins of U.S. Middle East policy was directly visible to many of us working in the Near East South Asia policy office, and yet there seemed to be little any of us could do about it.”
“I saw a narrow and deeply flawed policy favored by some executive appointees in the Pentagon used to manipulate and pressurize the traditional relationship between policymakers in the Pentagon and U.S. intelligence agencies.”
“I witnessed neoconservative agenda bearers within OSP usurp measured and carefully considered assessments, and through suppression and distortion of intelligence analysis promulgate what were in fact falsehoods to both Congress and the executive office of the president.” (end quotes)
It was those “falsehoods” that the Bush administration used to build their case for invading Iraq that they presented to Congress. In so doing, the Bush adminstration lied to both Congress and the American people about the validity of their justification for war in Iraq.
As a result 4,253 American service personnel and 1,311,696 Iraqis have DIED FOR A LIE!
